Isovaleric acidemia is another cause of metabolic body odor. It is the body's inability to process certain proteins properly. A characteristic sign of isovaleric acidemia is a distinctive odor of sweaty feet throughout the body. The symptoms of this disorder can become apparent within a few days after birth, during childhood, and may come and go over time. Like many other genetic malodor conditions, some people may be carriers of this IVD gene mutation and be 'asymptomatic'.
